Difference Between GCSE and iGCSE

  1. Both GCSE and iGCSE are available in the UK but with the IGCSE being taught mainly by private schools

  2. The iGCSE is regulated by the awarding organisations such as Pearson-Edexcel and Cambridge CIE while the GCSE is regulated by Ofqual and is mainly taught in the state-funded schools

  3. British universities and across the world treat the GCSEs and IGCSEs as exact equivalent in the admission processes 

  4. The National Recognition Information Centre for the United Kingdom (UK NARIC) benchmarks the IGCSE qualification as equivalent to GCSE and both qualifications are represented at UK's Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) the same as Levels 1 and level 2

  5. Also, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) is a UK-based organisation whose main role is to operate the application process for British universities consider the IGCSE to be equal in weight to GCSE qualification.

  6. Another main difference between GCSE and IGCSE is that GCSE science subjects require the submission of practicals which are similar to courseworks while IGCSE does not require any practicals but only the formal written exams.
